Frequently Asked Questions

Many of our schools are open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM for our busy families. The school day is typically from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. For children under five, we have half-day programs that end at either 12:00 or 12:30 PM. Our preschools stay open all year. Our parents can choose to enroll for just the school year or stay with us over the summer months too.

If you are looking for reliable Montessori child care, preschool, elementary, or middle school near you in the Southern California area, LePort is here to help. We offer exceptional programs designed to meet the needs of young children and their families. Learn more about why we stand out from the rest.

In a Montessori preschool, children are encouraged to choose work they are interested in and learn at a pace that suits them, all with guidance from trained teachers. Our classrooms are calm and organized, creating an ideal environment for focused learning and independence. Unlike traditional daycare, which often includes more free play and activity, we provide structured, engaging tasks that build creativity and essential skills. We also teach them how to be kind, work together, and make good choices without using rewards or punishments. Around age six, our students move on to our Montessori elementary program. Later, they can join our middle school program.

Younger children benefit from having older peers to model, while older children strengthen their understanding by helping the younger ones. The older children also develop leadership skills and a drive to help others.

Most of our lead teachers have their undergraduate degree, and have finished specialized training with the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) or the American Montessori Society (AMS). Some have other training and experience to make sure they meet our standards. All of our teachers pass background checks and provide us with references and necessary certificates. They receive routine training in safety, like CPR, first aid, and how to help with allergies. They know how to stay calm and keep children safe in any situation. Our teachers stay up to date on best practices in the classroom, as well as participate in trainings such as child abuse prevention and behavior management.

Regular, proactive, open communication is essential to a successful education. The more you understand Montessori, trust our teachers, and create consistency between home and school, the better your child will do. Here are just a few of the ways we communicate with parents:

  • Daily reports – For our full-day infants and toddlers, parents receive daily reports each day. These keep you updated about basic information from your child’s day, such as meals, naps, and toileting.
  • Drop-off and pick-up chats – Families can speak with teachers during drop-off and pick-up, as time permits. If your child’s teacher is not available to talk for long, leave a message with our front office staff and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
  • Weekly emails – We email parents important information for the week, such as deadlines, meetings, and updates about programs and events (like after-school sign-ups and conferences).
  • Teacher email updates – Teachers send regular updates through Transparent Classroom. These may include quick messages and photos of your child working at school. Longer emails are sent if needed.
  • Classroom observations – At our schools, we have an open-door policy. We welcome our parents to observe their child’s classroom. One popular option is our Watch Me Work Wednesdays program, where you can sign up for a one-hour observation to see how your child spends their time in class.
  • Progress reports – Twice a year, typically in February and June, you will receive a written progress report about how your child is doing in school. These are available online in the Transparent Classroom system.
  • Parent-teacher conferences – Twice a year, typically in September/October and February, we ask that parents meet with their child’s teacher. This is a chance to discuss your child’s progress and set learning goals. Some teachers may send a questionnaire to new parents before this event. This is so they can better understand the goals that you have for your child.
  • School informational events – We host regular events to help parents learn more about our program. These events come in many forms. We have informal “coffee chats” during drop-off, 90-minute evening events on different topics, virtual events you can join from home, and weekend workshops.

We have a hot lunch program at most of our schools if enough families want it. Some smaller schools may not have hot lunches, and new schools might need more time before they can offer it. We use high quality food vendors, and families can pick meals from online menus. Our partners focus on healthy food.

We work with our parents to keep our students with allergies safe. In our programs up to 3rd grade, we have nut-free classrooms at all schools. In higher grades, some schools may also be nut-free, depending on the needs of the children. We have special training to help keep children with food allergies safe. If your child has a severe allergy, we ask parents to bring epinephrine injectors to stay at school in our emergency backpacks. Parents also need to give us a written plan for how to help their child if they have an allergic reaction. Please contact the school office for the parent handbook and allergy forms to fill out.

LePort Montessori complies with California vaccination laws, requiring all children to be fully vaccinated unless they have a medical exemption. Vaccination protects those who can’t be vaccinated, like infants or children with health issues. We monitor vaccination rates and may restrict unvaccinated children from attending if it risks others’ health. During an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease, unvaccinated children may be asked to stay home, per CDC guidelines. In this event, full tuition is still required. Families must provide updated vaccine records at enrollment and as needed by law.

We greatly appreciate many causes that LePort families, students, and teachers support. However, as a company, we focus our charitable efforts on providing financial aid to students who cannot otherwise attend our schools.
