Mission & History
At LePort Montessori, our mission is to help our students grow in all aspects of life—academically, emotionally, and socially. We aim to prepare them for the future by inspiring a lifelong love of learning. Our goal is to not just teach facts to our students, but to help them learn how to think, explore new things, and understand the world.
We believe that education is a joint effort between school and families. When a child joins LePort, we also welcome their family as part of our community. We encourage our parents to be involved in their child’s education. They can attend events, give us feedback, and stay informed about what their child is learning.
A History of Innovation
LePort Montessori was started by Dr. Peter LePort, a parent who wanted a better education for his children. While he was in medical school, Dr. LePort learned about Dr. Maria Montessori and her ideas for teaching. He liked how Montessori’s method helped children grow both in their thinking and their character. When his children were old enough for school, Dr. LePort enrolled them in Montessori programs. But he wasn’t happy with many of the schools. Even though he believed in the Montessori way of teaching, he was disappointed with how the schools were run and how the teachers were supported. He decided to hire a teacher to homeschool his children, and helped her develop an innovative, new upper elementary program. Both of his children later went to top colleges and did very well in their studies.
Dr. LePort had been thinking about the field of education for decades, and starting a school was the next step. He wanted his school to offer more than just regular education. He wanted a place where children could learn to think for themselves, develop strong academic skills, and become independent, thoughtful people. He believed children should not just memorize facts but should also understand what they are learning and know how to use it in real life. LePort Montessori Schools is the culmination of his efforts to provide children with a superior education.
Learning and Growth
At our school, we help our students learn knowledge and life skills. Students get to choose what work they want to do and can learn at their own pace. Our teachers help guide them as they learn how to think, solve problems, and work on their own. Our students also learn how to be kind, responsible, and work well with others. These skills help them grow into confident and capable people. We believe learning is more than just academics. We help our students build good habits that will benefit them throughout their lives. We teach them how to work together, make smart choices, and respect others. By focusing on personal growth along with academics, we prepare them for success in school and beyond.
Dedicated Teachers
We know that great teachers make a big difference in a child’s learning. That’s why we hire the best and give them everything they need to help their students succeed. Our teachers love what they do and are passionate about each child’s growth and learning. They create a calm classroom where students can enjoy learning and do their best. We select teachers who are well-trained and are committed to giving children a great education. They work hard to make sure every child feels confident, supported, and excited about learning new things.
A Partnership with Families
We believe that education is a journey we take together with our families. Parents are important partners in this process, and we welcome their involvement. From parent-teacher meetings to family events, we give parents many ways to be part of their child’s learning experience. We keep in touch throughout the year by sending updates and encouraging them to watch their child’s progress. We also host two parent-teacher conferences each year to talk about how each child is growing both in learning and as a person.
We start each school year with a Parent Orientation Night, where we introduce our parents to the school and answer their questions. We also offer Parent Education Evenings throughout the year. These events allow our parents to learn more about Montessori education and what their children are experiencing in the classroom. These sessions cover key areas like Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, and Math. One of the highlights of the year is Parent Night, where our students show their parents the work that they have been doing in class.
We also invite our families to take part in events like celebrating cultural holidays and other school-wide events. We encourage our families to share their own traditions and cultures, which brings diversity into the classroom. They are also welcome to join on school trips, recitals, and award ceremonies. By working together, we can create a stronger and more supportive space for every child.
